Four Things To Do For Your Air Conditioning

There are certain things you will want to do for your air conditioning system to help ensure that it continues to run smoothly. Every once in a while, be sure to do these four things:

  1. Check the Thermostat: If the thermostat is not working, then there is no way that you can adjust the temperature of the air conditioning. This means that it could be stuck blowing out air that is too cold or too warm for you. If you have an older thermostat, always be sure that when you rotate the dial, you hear a clicking sound. If there is no clicking sound, this means that it is probably not adjusting, and you will have to replace it. If you have a thermostat that requires batteries, be sure that you are always changing them out when it's needed and replace the thermostat if the batteries don't help to make it work.
  2. Check the Duct Work in Your Attic: The ducts are what the air moves through and you always want to check on them to be sure that there are no tears. If there are, you should be sure to have them sealed with duct tape. Also, check to see if the ducts are potentially clogged since this can cause issues with air flow. If they are clogged, you will want to take a damp cloth and remove the debris.
  3. Wash the Condenser: A dirty condenser unit can block air from getting into the home, as well. You should be sure to turn off the unit and spray down the unit with a hose, careful not to get the electrical parts wet. Then you can take a dry cloth and wipe down any dirt that is still stuck to the condenser unit.
  4. Change the Filter: The filter to your air conditioning system needs to be replaced or cleaned at least twice per year. With a dirty filter, air won't be able to get into the home, which wastes a great deal of energy and forces you to turn the air conditioning up higher.

By knowing what you can do to keep your air conditioning running smoothly, you can be sure that you avoid wasting energy, which increases energy bills. You can also be sure that you avoid any major repairs in the future. This is because without regular maintenance for the air conditioning, repairs can become extensive and even force you to have to replace the whole system sooner rather than later.
